My name is Jacqueline and I’m a 28-year-old digit amputee. I lost half of my index finger at the middle phalanx and suffered injuries to three other fingers on my dominant hand in 2017. The amputation was the result of a missing guard in an industrial work setting.
Outside of work my main hobbies have always included musical instruments and gaming. Just months before my injury I had taken up double bass and instantly fell in love with it. It didn’t take long for me to realize how much the damage to my hand would negatively affect, or completely prevent, my ability to play. In addition, I struggled quite a bit with gaming and typing on my computer. Having my two favorite past times taken away was devastating.
When I first saw a PIPDriver my first thought was, “I could play my instruments again” and that’s exactly what my prosthetic device has allowed me to do. With a bit of practice and patience, I am back to playing my double bass and saxophone as I could pre-injury. Typing and using a computer is no longer a battle. I have regained the confidence that my injury took from me.
